In October, the sales volume of domestic narrow passenger vehicles reached 2,248,959 units, an increase of 2.6% year-on-year; from January to October, the cumulative sales volume was 18,554,236 units, an increase of 2.1% year-on-year. The “Golden 9 Silver 10†and the determination of sprint sales by car companies in the fourth quarter all contributed to the increase in sales in October.
At the same time, sales in October increased by 2.4% from the previous month in September. The CLUCC pointed out that this was due to the fact that the SUV increased by 5% month-on-month in October. However, the downward trend of MPV has not yet improved, which was a 22.5% year-on-year decrease in October.
In October, the top three manufacturers of domestic sales of narrow passenger cars were SAIC-VW, SAIC-GM, and FAW-Volkswagen. 4-6 names were the same as in September. They were Shanghai Wuling, Dongfeng Nissan and Geely Automobile. It is worth noting that Beijing Hyundai returned to the list of top 10 car companies in October, ranking 9th, and Dongfeng Honda was squeezed out of the top 10.
In terms of independent brands, Geely and Great Wall are still far ahead of other brands, both of which have exceeded 100,000 in single month sales. Among them, Geely sold 125,100 vehicles in October, a year-on-year increase of 30%. The single Bo Yue vehicle sold 30,138 vehicles. Following the new emperor, sales reached 27,033 units. The sales of Emgrand GS and Emgrand GL are also maintained at over 10,000 units. The Geely Automobile with balanced development in various aspects is gradually moving toward the core stage.
In contrast, Great Wall Motors (11.410, -0.05, -0.44%), although in October there were also good performances of 108,000, but the long-short board gap is too obvious and is still "walking in one leg." In October, the Haval series SUVs accounted for 80,000 sales, including 49,015 Haval H6s and 17,560 Haval H2s. The remaining five Hover H1, Haval H5, Haval H7, H8, and H9 cars only sold more than 10,000 vehicles, and the worst H8 sales figure was only 619 vehicles.
In contrast, its high-end brands WEY's VV7 and VV5 are maintained at a good level in the 8000.
Another rising star of self-owned brand Guangqi Chuanqi sold 45,500 vehicles in October, an increase of 14.1% year-on-year; its cumulative sales volume in the first 10 months reached 42.1%, a significant increase of 41.8% year-on-year. According to the manufacturers, Chuanxi has no worries about its sales target. The GS8 and GS7 will have impulses at the end of the year and the GS8 transmission supply situation will be greatly improved. It is expected that the GS8+GS7's annual production will reach 120,000 units. Its sales volume served GS4 cumulative sales in the first 10 months of more than 280,000, ranking second in the domestic SUV market.
In sharp contrast to the above-mentioned booming scenes, JAC (10.080, -0.16, -1.56%) sold 44348 vehicles in October, a year-on-year decrease of 21.74%; cumulative sales in the previous October decreased by 19.93% year-on-year. The SUV model that once supported JAC sales fell 55.14% in the first 10 months, causing the brand to collapse almost entirely.
In terms of joint venture brands, the German and Japanese companies have shown an overall growth trend.
SAIC Volkswagen (including the Skoda brand) sold 193,782 vehicles, an increase of 3.1% year-on-year. Models such as the Polo family, the new LaVida, and Tiguan are still selling models. In October, Volkswagen's new Touran L, New Skoda Hao Rui and incitement have been listed, will help SAIC Motor to achieve further sales growth.
SAIC GM’s Buick and Chevrolet brands grew by 2.1% and 17% respectively. Buick GL8 and Angkewei occupy the leading positions in their respective market segments; Chevrolet's Malibu, Cruze, explorers and other models make the brand a balanced development.
FAW Toyota sold 56,000 vehicles in October, an increase of 14.0% year-on-year; cumulative sales for the January-October period were 583,000 vehicles, reaching 83% of the annual sales target of 700,000. The Corolla family sold nearly 29,000 vehicles in October, of which the mixed models sold more than 4,500 vehicles. In addition, FAW Toyota will launch the new RAV4 Rongfang and the new Prado in November.
GAC Toyota sold 42,672 vehicles in October, a year-on-year increase of 10.3%. From January to October, the cumulative sales volume was 375,598 units, a year-on-year increase of 4.0%. GAC Toyota had completed 86% of its annual target in October. The sales volume of the Ralink fuel version was 14,409 units in October, a year-on-year increase of 19.0%. The sales volume of the Ralink Twin Engine Group in October was 3,997 units, an increase of 58.4% year-on-year. From January to October, the cumulative sales volume was 33,096 units, a year-on-year increase of 68.9%. Highlander sold 7,563 vehicles in October, a year-on-year increase of 5.8%. In October, Guangzhou Automobile Honda Motor Co., Ltd. achieved 70,263 units of terminal sales, a year-on-year increase of 10%, which created the best results for single-month sales in 2017. Fengfan, Ling Pai and Fit's terminal sales in October were 7,478 units, 10,323 units and 9,254 units respectively.
The sales volume of Changan Mazda in October was 18,493 units, an increase of 3.7% year-on-year; from January to October, the cumulative sales volume was 156,700 units, an increase of 2.9% year-on-year, and it is expected to achieve the annual sales target of 200,000 units. At present, Changan Mazda only has two models: Angkesila and CX-5. However, Mazda's small SUV CX-3 will be listed at the Guangzhou Auto Show and will be sold in China in an imported manner, which will help its sales to grow further.
In October, FAW Mazda sold 10,783 vehicles, an increase of 4.6% year-on-year. In the January-October period, 99,477 vehicles were sold, a 47.7% year-on-year increase, surpassing the full-year sales last year. The single-month sales of the CX-4 reached 7,347 units, a record high for a single month. Atez sold 3,436 units.
It is worth mentioning that Beijing Hyundai’s sales reached 80,016 units in October and has exceeded 80,000 units for two consecutive months. The new Tucson’s sales in October were 14,718 units; the sales volume was 14,099 units; the new name month sales reached 12,873 units; Langdong was 10,867 units; and the new small-sized car was also 9,450 units. With the weakening of the Saadian factors, the Korean brand is gradually returning to normal sales.
In terms of luxury brands, Audi sold 53,628 vehicles (including imported cars) in China in October, a year-on-year increase of 14.5%. Among them, Audi A4L's October sales reached 11,436 units, up 178.7% year-on-year; A6L sold 11,795 units; Audi A3's single-month sales reached 7,085 units.
Mercedes-Benz sold 46,016 vehicles in China in October, a year-on-year increase of 10.9%. The Chinese market is the fastest growing market among Mercedes-Benz's global regions. In the first 10 months, Mercedes-Benz sold 488,915 vehicles in China, a year-on-year increase of 27.8%.
Second-tier luxury brands, Cadillac all the way to go forward. In October this year, Cadillac sold 17,018 vehicles in China. Among them, XT5 sold 6,615 units in October, an increase of 40.0%; ATS-L sales of 5,600 units, an increase of 37.0%. The domestic flagship model CT6 sold nearly 1,200 units in October, an increase of 170.0% year-on-year.
In October, Volvo sold 10,744 vehicles in China. The Volvo S60L, Volvo XC60 and Volvo S90 are the main models. With the launch of the all-new generation XC60 on December 20th, the competitiveness of this model will be further enhanced.
Jaguar Land Rover sold 12,321 vehicles in China in October, an increase of 12% year-on-year, and achieved year-on-year sales growth for 22 consecutive months. From January to October, its cumulative sales in China reached 116,988 units, an increase of 25% over the same period of last year. Jaguar's XFL models sold 1,804 vehicles in a single month, becoming the best-selling Jaguar models in China; the Land Rover brand found the best sales of the Shenxing and Range Rover Sport models, helping the brand reach 8830 units of single-month sales.
In October, sales of new energy vehicles were 65,000 units, a 12% increase from the previous quarter and doubled over the same period of last year. Among them, PHEV increased 2 times year-on-year, and pure electric vehicles increased by 84%. The CYL is expected to complete the annual target of 500,000 new energy passenger vehicles.
Overall, the increase in car sales in October was driven mainly by seasonal demand rather than manufacturer sales. However, the CCC expects that the joint venture brand will have strong demand but limited production, but the self-owned brand will have strong production capacity but limited demand, which will inhibit the growth rate of the auto market at the end of the year.
