More than 100 people evacuated on the scene of ammonia leakage in a residential area in Wenzhou

At 15:47 on August 2, 2010, an ammonia leak occurred at a refrigeration plant beside No. 22 of Zhuhai Road in Wenzhou, Zhejiang Province. The scene is a densely populated residential area. The city's fire brigade immediately dispatched three fire squadrons, including Jiangbin Road, Special Service I, and Special Service II, and more than 50 fire brigades went to the scene to dispose of them.

Five minutes later, Jiangbin Road fire squadron officers and soldiers rushed to the scene and found that many people ran around their noses and the air was filled with extremely pungent odors. The fire brigade stopped the vehicle 100 meters away from the accident and immediately deployed the troops while evacuating the troops.

The leaked ammonia barrels are located in Wenzhou Xinyuan Freezer Factory. The factory is a two-and-a-half-storey residential building, and next to it is a dense residential area next to the urban farmers’ money market. According to the old man living next to him, the ammonia bucket on the top floor of the house can hold about 2 tons of ammonia gas. At the scene, there is an intensive “bashing and flapping” sound around the ammonia drums, and 100 meters away from the air outlet, you must still bring a simple gas mask to get close to the site. The fire officers then immediately fired two guns, one directly on the tank for cooling, and one on the air for dilution.

Ten minutes later, a fire officer put on a combat suit and approached the tank. He found that there were three leaks in the tank, two large valves, and a small one was a burst of the tank. Under the cover of the water gun, the fire officers and soldiers used liquefied gas detection equipment. Two fire fighters stepped closer to the leakage point on the third floor to perform gas density detection. The instrument tests showed that the concentration of gas in the air was serious, and the fire commander on the spot was cleared after finding out the basic situation of leakage. Immediately to make a rescue deployment, five secret service fire fighters carried liquefied gas tank (gas) plugging tools and equipment. Difficult to get close to the tank, plugged the two valve gaps with plugging tools. However, because of the irregularities in the burst of the cracks, it was difficult to plug it and the rescue was in a stalemate.

After one and a half hours, after constant efforts, the leak was finally blocked and the danger finally cleared.

According to on-site commander Wang Wei, when they arrived at the scene, they immediately evacuated more than 100 residents of the lower tuyere and set up a cordon on the scene. Fortunately, the accident did not cause casualties.

According to the person in charge of the Jiangbin Street, the plot has been included in the scope of demolition, but most of the houses have not yet been demolition. Xu, the head of the refrigeration plant, had already reported to the relevant authorities two years ago and had lost his business qualification. The street staff has also been inspected several times in the past two years, but the person in charge of the factory refused to accept the safety inspection because "there was no business license and no production." However, the people on the scene questioned one after the other. If there is no production, how can ammonia be filled up in a tank that has been abandoned for many years?
