World's longest natural gas pipeline completed and put into production

Guo Xiaofang, a primary school teacher in Tianhe District, Guangzhou, who has been using liquefied gas, is looking forward to the day when the natural gas pipeline reaches its home. "Natural gas is clean and safe, and it is much more convenient than liquefied gas," she said with expectation.

Guo Xiaofang’s wishes are becoming a reality. The Central Asia-China West-East Gas Pipeline project, which received much attention from overseas, was officially aired on the 30th. On this day, natural gas from the right bank of the Amu Darya in Turkmenistan will reach the Pearl River Delta after crossing China's 15 provinces.

As a national key project listed in the “Eleventh Five-Year Plan”, the total investment of the “West Second Line” is approximately 142.2 billion yuan, and the total length of the pipeline is more than 8,700 kilometers. It is currently the longest natural gas pipeline project in the world.

The “West Second Line” consisting of a trunk line and eight branch lines runs from Horgos in Xinjiang to Shanghai in the east and Guangzhou and Hong Kong in the south. It runs across the eastern and western ends of China and spans 15 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities. With a gas transmission capacity of 30 billion cubic meters, it can provide more than 30 years of stable gas supply.

Relevant experts pointed out that the completion and production of the second line of the West-East Gas Pipeline project has added an important artery to the Chinese energy landscape, which will help ease the tight supply of natural gas, improve the natural gas pipeline network operation level, and further optimize China's energy consumption structure.

Liao Liao, deputy general manager of China National Petroleum Corporation, said that the implementation of this project is of great significance and profound significance for building a well-to-do society in an all-round way, improving China's energy structure, promoting economic and social development along the pipeline, and benefiting the people along the route.

“As of May 28 this year, 'West Second Line' has accumulated more than 10 billion cubic meters of natural gas in Central Asia, and the production section connected to other domestic natural gas pipelines has benefited 18 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities in China, benefiting approximately 100 million people. With the opening of several other branch lines next year, China will have 500 million people by then," Liao said forever.

The reporter learned that the completion and commissioning of the Central Asia-West-East Gas Pipeline No. 2 line not only effectively alleviated the contradiction between natural gas supply and demand in the Pearl River Delta, Yangtze River Delta, and Central South, but also achieved the same line with the West-East Gas Pipeline, the Seiyang-Ningbo Line, etc. The network of pipelines has already been established, which in turn forms the main natural gas pipeline network in China and constitutes the energy artery of “gasification China” of nearly 40,000 kilometers.

“The West Second Line also connects the Tarim Gas Field, the Junggar Gas Field, the Tuha Gas Field, and the Changqing Gas Field. They provide about 15 billion cubic meters of emergency security air supply to the West-East Gas Pipeline at any time, and it is also connected with the previously built West Gas East. Transmission pipelines, Shaanxi-Beijing pipelines, etc. will be connected into a 'gas network' and gas sources can be adjusted at any time," said Xu Yongfa, president of the China National Petroleum Corporation's Economic and Technical Research Institute.

Xu Yongfa stated that the multi-pronged, multi-pronged approach to security can ensure that the resources of the West-East Gas Pipeline No. 2 are free from worry and supply.

Experts predict that with the full deployment of the natural gas pipeline network, the number of natural gas cities in China will increase to around 270 in 2011. In the middle of the 21st century, a nationwide gas pipeline network covering 31 provinces will be formed, and more than 95% of prefecture-level cities will have access to natural gas, and the energy consumption structure will be further optimized.

“The consumption of natural gas in China’s primary energy consumption is still not equal to the average level in Asia. At present, the domestic demand for natural gas for consumption grows rapidly. The establishment of the Central Asia-West-East Gas Pipeline II is to improve the primary energy consumption structure in China and realize the environment and The sustainable development of resources is of great significance.” Zhou Dadi, deputy director of the China Energy Research Association, told reporters.

According to reports, in China's primary energy consumption structure, the current proportion of natural gas consumption is only about 4%, which is one-sixth of the world average and one-twelfth that of developed countries in Europe and America. In addition, the current world per capita natural gas consumption is 508 cubic meters per year, which is more than eight times per capita consumption in China.

In addition, the opening of the second West-East Gas Pipeline will promote the use of clean fuels in place of gas and coal for some power plants, kilns, chemical companies, and residents' lives in cities along the route. This will improve the quality of people’s lives while also effectively improving China’s atmospheric environment. .

According to estimates by experts, natural gas imported from Central Asia can annually replace 76.8 million tons of standard coal, reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 130 million tons, and reduce the emission of 2.46 million tons of sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides, and industrial dust and other harmful substances, which will improve China's Energy structure and environmental quality will play a decisive role.
