It is reported that Wärtsilä will provide a wide range of products and solutions for the six new 1160TEU feeder container ships built in Mawei, Fujian.
Wärtsilä's equipment for each feeder container ship includes a variable pitch propeller main propulsion unit, including a shafting unit with a step up tunnel gear, and a bow with a motor and frequency converter (VFD). A steering device consisting of a tunnel thruster, a shaft generator system designed for the user, a hybrid exhaust gas cleaning system, a ballast water management system, a sewage treatment unit and marine automation.
The six new 1160TEU regional container ships are ordered by the German Marl ink project management company in conjunction with a number of investment companies. This series of container ships was designed by the German company abh Ingenieur-Technik GmbH. The construction contract includes an additional order for an additional six ships of the same type. The exhaust gas scrubber and ballast water management system ordered for this series of container ships was contracted in May 2017, and other equipment was contracted in December 2016.
The equipment provided by Wärtsilä is scheduled to begin delivery in the second half of 2017 and it is expected that the first regional container ship will be delivered in 2018.
