Zhou Deyi’s old man was born in November 1928. With this promise, Zhou Deyi returned to the army and was assigned to the 203th Division of the Youth Corps as an assistant platoon leader and was trained in Jiangjin County. Afterwards, this army was hit hard by the PLA and the rest of the troops retreated to Taiwan. When he boarded a warship, Zhou Deyi used his excuse to forget to bring a document and stayed on the mainland. Later, he was invited to serve as a platoon leader for the 237th delegation of the 79th Division of the 20th Army of the Kuomintang. The army was revolted in Jintang County, Sichuan Province in December 1949 and was reorganized by the People's Liberation Army. Zhou Deyi once served as a commander of the North-western Military Guard Corps with two straight platoons.

In November 1950, Zhou Deyi retired and returned to his hometown and was placed to work in an arsenal in Chongqing. However, because his adoptive father looked down on his status as a "worker," he called him back to farming.
