South Korea Nkomati Nickel Mine

Description: The Nkomati nickel mine is located in the Mpumalanga area of ​​eastern South Africa, 300 km from Johannesburg and was commissioned in 1997 as the first nickel mine in South Africa. Divided into two deposits: high content mine and low content mine. The high content is sent to the Rustenburg smelter for smelting, and the low content is sent to Boswana and Zimbabwe for smelting. In 2007, the feasibility study for expansion was carried out, and it is expected that the expansion project will be put into operation in 2010. After the expansion, the mining life will be extended from 2023 to 2030 and will gradually be changed to open pit mining.

Yield of their products: the current annual production capacity of about 4,000 tons (the amount of metal).

Shareholders: At present, the mine has two major shareholders: Russia's Norilsk Nickel Company holds 50% of the shares, and South Africa's ARM (AfricanRainbowMinerals) holds 50%. In June 2005, Australia LionOre purchased 50% of the mine from ARM in South Africa, while Russian Norilsk Nickel held 97.7% of LionOre.
