Imagine that your heart has failed. You urgently need to change. Every day, your family nervously waits to call from the hospital to say that they have found a donor. Then one day, the call was passed. In your excitement, the doctor on the other end tells you. The donor may not be human. This is a pig.
This possibility will soon come. Last week, the pig's heart was transplanted to a cricket and has survived for a year. At the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute in the United States, support for animal internal organs can be used to help humans wait for a long list of transplants.
