Oilfield Drilling Makes New Requirements for Chemicals

At the National Oilfield Chemicals Development and Application Seminar hosted by China Chemical News on August 20th, Yang Xiaohua, a senior engineer at the Institute of Drilling Fluids of the China Petroleum & Chemical Engineering Research Institute pointed out that as oil drilling progresses toward deep wells and ultra-deep wells, Drilling chemicals put forward higher requirements and also provided more space for the development of drilling chemicals. The development of domestic drilling chemicals is in urgent need of new drilling fluid treatment agents and well cement admixtures to provide technical support for the accelerated development of the entire industry.
In the development of drilling fluid treatment agents, Yang Xiaohua proposed that synthetic polymer treatment agents should focus on the development of dedicated new monomers. On the basis of existing monomer research applications, new functional monomers have been developed, and molecular modifications have been used to improve the performance of existing polymers to give full play to their advantages. In addition, from the aspects of raw material cost and production cost, we started to improve production technology, production scale and efficiency, and reduce the production costs of polymer processing agents. In the development of natural product treatment agents, Yang Xiaohua proposed to consider the use of lignin resources, especially the use of alkali papermaking waste liquids, and the deep modification of lignite, so that natural materials play a greater role in drilling fluids.
In terms of oil well cement admixtures, Yang Xiaohua believes that the development of anti-clogging agents for cementing wells, admixtures for improving the bond strength at the interface, and cementing admixtures (including preservatives) for high H2S formations should be developed. At the same time, the development of high-temperature stabilizers, anti-salt stabilizers, dispersants, defoamers, etc. used in high-performance styrene-butadiene latex and latex blends was developed. In the context of fluid loss additives, new monomer polymers should be built around and the molecular design should be strengthened to develop high temperature resistant polymers and lignin sulfonates, lignite and tannin grafted with vinyl monomers.
Yang Xiaohua stressed that in the production and application of various professional should strengthen exchanges, collaborative research, unified product standards, the formation of large-scale production.
