Jianghuai Navistar JV has made new progress

Where has Navistar's Chinese strategy gone?

Careful people may find that at this year's Shanghai International Auto Show, Jianghuai Automobile released the Jianghuai Shuai Ling light truck overseas edition, which is powered by the Maasfu series engine that Jianghuai Navistar will soon put into production.

What's new?

Faced with growing concern in the industry, recently, Joe Worth, general manager of Anhui Jianghuai Navistar Diesel Engine Co., Ltd., and Wang Yunsheng, deputy general manager, answered the progress of the joint venture company.

Navistar Domestic Engine Loading in the Second Half of the Year

“The first stage of the joint venture company is mainly based on three medium- and light-duty engines, including 2.8-liter, 3.2-liter and 4.8-liter displacement series, of which the 2.8-liter series of engine products is JAC’s autonomous engine project (JAC HFC4DA12.8L engine), which has already been put into operation. The production has become more mature and has sold more than 20,000 units so far this year,” Wang Yunsheng said.

For the MaxxForce 3.2-litre and 4.8-litre engines with Navitas technical pedigree, what's happening now?

"There is currently no mass production yet, but the investment of both sides has already been clarified and will soon be in place. Once the funds are in place, the two engines will be put into production," Joeworth told reporters.

“The two domestically-built joint venture engines have now completed the reliability test of existing domestic oil products, and can meet the national IV and the national 5 emission standards, fully meeting the upcoming demands of domestic users. The initial plan is to install small batches in the second half of the year. Car.” Wang Yunsheng added.

Joeworth also revealed that in the second phase of the in-depth joint venture between JAC and Navistar, the joint venture will introduce and realignize the Navistar Maasfu high-power heavy-duty engine, which includes 9.3L, 11L and 13L. Diesel engines will be introduced with Navistar's truck products.

"The introduction of 9.3 liters and 13 liters can be used as a supplement to the 11-liter gold displacement engine on the market today," said Joeworth.

Wang Yunsheng further said that the joint venture of Jianghuai Automobile and Navistar, the next-generation truck-heavy truck joint venture, is currently being submitted to the NDRC for approval. "Moreover, Navistar heavy-duty trucks and Jianghuai Pingzhong heavy trucks equipped with Navistar engines are now doing localization tests and various kinds of verification work."

The engine adapts to the quality of domestic oil products without decreasing

For joint ventures, avoiding foreign advanced technology products to become dissatisfied after entering China is a top priority. After more than a year of hard work, has the Jianghua Navistar real estate engine been able to adapt to China's oil quality? After localization, will it lead to a decline in engine performance?

"Actually, it is not only technology-introduced products, but also the products we develop on our own, and we are also facing the same problem. The sulphur content of domestic oil products is relatively high, and we immediately implement national IV emissions for commercial vehicles, but the current state III diesel has not yet reached every gas station.” Wang Yunsheng said that during the joint venture’s product development process, domestic oil products were used to verify the reliability and stability of the products and ensure that the JAC engine products can adapt to China’s Oil quality.

“Another point is that in the process of product development, we can guarantee that the quality of our products will not be reduced in different environments. This is a feature of Navistar's product development,” added Joeworth.

In the joint venture engine test, Joeworth further explained that compared with Navistar South America's product performance parameters (in South America Brazil's oil products and domestic are more similar) we can see that there is no decline in product performance, “Through our series of links, we compared the performance parameters of the joint venture’s products with those of South American companies. We found that the performance levels of the two companies are the same.”

He therefore concluded that "pre-test results show that our engines have a clear competitive advantage in terms of quality, cost, and performance compared with similar products on the market. Of course, some data are constantly improving, but for now, At the level of ours, we are fully able to allow our customers to accept our engines."

Joint venture products will also be exported to overseas markets

How will the joint venture's future products be sold?

"The Jianghuai series will be prioritized and the 2.8L, 3.2L, 4.8L and 7.2L displacement series engines will cover the light and medium-duty truck market. In the future, 9.3L, 11L and 13L diesel engines will be installed on JAC's medium and heavy trucks. In the future, we may also supply more vehicle manufacturers for more products, said Joeworth.

The products of the joint venture company will not only be sold domestically in China, but will also use the global network channels of Navistar to export JAC light trucks to emerging markets such as Brazil. In the future, the company will also expand its markets in Europe, Asia, Australia and Australia. "The new generation of Shuai Ling overseas edition and Jianghuai Shuai Ling N series right rudder light truck exhibited at the Shanghai Auto Show are prepared for the export of international markets," added Joeworth.

However, Joeworth also stressed that the joint venture's export planning in the earlier period was exported to foreign countries through JAC's overseas network and was carried on the entire vehicle in JAC.

“Jianghuai’s export market occupies a large proportion, so their products should implement higher standards. The joint venture between Jianghuai Automobile and Navistar, on the one hand, based on the advantages of technology sharing, on the other hand, the import of parts and components To achieve the goal of 100% localization rate, we can realize cost advantages, so in general, the cooperation between JAC and Navistar can enable JAC's vehicle products to have quality, performance and reliability in the international market as well as The obvious advantage of cost," explained Joeworth.

It seems that the domestically produced engines of the Jianghuai Navistar Joint Venture Company may not be long before they meet customers in overseas and domestic markets.
