Jia Jinsheng, chairman of the International Dam Commission and vice president of the China Institute of Water Resources and Hydropower Research, spoke at the “China Hydropower Century Conference,” and stated that at present, China’s hydropower is in the forefront of the world in many aspects, from hydroelectric power generation to hydropower installation. From a high point of view, there are many dams in our country that have entered the world's top ten, but in terms of storage capacity, we are still far behind the most advanced countries in the world. The Three Gorges only ranks 22nd in the world. Many countries have a single reservoir with a storage capacity of more than 100 billion.

Jia Jinsheng stated that the development of the international community has put forward new requirements for dams for reservoirs, such as the demand for energy and electricity, and adequate storage capacity to adapt to the requirements of climate change. In response to dam safety, all countries in the world have stepped up their efforts. The mudslides in Zhouqu reflect the increasing safety requirements for project quality.

Therefore, Jia Jinsheng believes that it is necessary to continue implementing the strategy of giving priority to hydropower, continue to strengthen the protection of the ecological environment, and improve the existing system in China.
