Japan's research and development of environmentally friendly container ship design

On June 23, Japan's IHIMU announced that it has completed the design of a new environmentally friendly 13,000 TEU container ship. It is reported that this environmentally friendly container ship called “eFuture13000C” has improved the propulsion system into a twin-screw, which has greatly improved energy efficiency and reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 30% compared with the previous similar ship type. If low-speed navigation is adopted, Harmful gas emissions can be reduced by 45%.

IHIMU pointed out that if there is an order, construction can begin now and there is confidence in the commercial use of the technology. It is also known that IHIMU is also developing other environmentally friendly ship types, as well as LNG fuel power systems and battery-based power storage systems. IHIMU pointed out that "although the current large container ship market environment is not optimistic, there will be new orders in the future."
