Intelligent Substation Technology Promotes the Intelligentization of Power Grid

Since 2010, it has successfully developed a number of intelligent substation projects, created a number of “domestic firsts”, obtained more than 10 national patents, drafted more than 20 national standards for auditing smart grids, and promoted the intelligentization of China’s electric power industry. The process has made great and positive contributions.

B: When did you start to develop contact with intelligent power technology development?

A: From the beginning of this century, China's electric power researchers have begun research work on intelligent power equipment. In 2010, my team and I started with intelligent substation process-level network communication and substation configuration information detection methods and devices, and gradually began the exploration of the smart relay protection equipment field.

B: What difficulties did you encounter during the R&D phase?

A: As the intelligent technology was still at the initial stage in China, many technical standards are still blank. The characteristics of the development of smart grids in the United States, Europe, and other countries do not match the actual development of the power grid in China and the equipment investment, which reduces the reference value of the standard. I led the team to select experimental substations with the conditions for the transformation of smart grid equipment. In the process of reconstruction, a device signal needs to be debugged for two or three days or even one week. The technical difficulty and work pressure are huge challenges. But in the end we spent three years to overcome the technical difficulty, successfully completed the intelligent transformation of the first experimental substation, completed the "first inspection" acceptance, and accumulated valuable experience for the subsequent development of intelligent power grid.

B: Take the intelligent substation operation and maintenance field that you are involved in as an example. At present, has China's power grid intelligence level been at the international advanced level?

A: China's intelligent power grid started at the beginning of this century, and it has developed rapidly after 2010. During this process, there emerged some excellent new technologies that matched and matched with China's current power grid development. Among them, the team led by me and myself was independent. The research and development of the project of "Visualized Panorama and Hierarchical Holographic Monitoring Platform for Relay Protection of Smart Substations" has reached the international advanced level and achieved remarkable results in actual operation. At present, China Power Grid has applied a number of advanced and applicable technologies such as condition monitoring of power transmission and transformation equipment, comprehensive alarm analysis of faults, and self-healing of distribution networks, further enhancing the intelligent level of on-line intelligent analysis, warning, decision-making, and control of power grids. Meet the requirements of coordinated control of power grids at all levels and support the integrated operation of smart grids.

B: Finally, please explain: What impact does the smart grid have on public life?

A: For the public, the smart grid will change our lifestyle. For example, a smart meter will realize the data group of ordinary household electricity. The power supply company will analyze the electricity consumption of each household according to the data, and provide the most reasonable power consumption plan to improve the efficiency of electricity consumption. There are also electric vehicles involved in the smart grid power supply system, how to establish a more efficient and convenient charging method, has an important role in the promotion of electric vehicles.
