Goodyear Tire Retreading Technology Awarded

A few days ago, Goodyear's multi-layer tire retreading technology was awarded the "Tire Manufacturing Annual Innovation Award" awarded by Tire Technology International. This technology can extend the life of the rubber in the retreading of truck tires and improve the quality and performance of the tires. An independent international jury composed of experts, engineers and scholars in the field of tires awarded the award to Goodyear.

Jean-Claude Kihn, chief technology officer of Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., Ltd., said: “Goodyear is focused on providing innovative technologies that are oriented to market demand for consumers and customers around the world. This time, we are relying on innovative technologies for gluing rubber in multi-layer tire retreading. Goodyear was once again proud of being awarded by the "International Tire Technology" magazine, which made us feel extremely proud. This award also has very important significance for our customers."

Jay Hofner, general manager of Goodyear's tire retreading business in North America, explained that the three-tiered independent layered structure used in Goodyear's multi-layer tire retreading technology is unique to the entire tire industry. “One layer of the three-layer structure has a barrier effect, which helps to extend the shelf life of the product. This is a very favorable competitive advantage for Goodyear-authorized retread tire manufacturers,” Hofner said. At the same time, he said that the other two layers of the multi-layer retread mat are made from Goodyear's carefully selected raw materials, and they can be fully mixed to form a complete vulcanized layer. Multi-layer retreading mats also have excellent heat-resistance and do not need to be refrigerated. This is another great advantage that this innovative technology can bring to manufacturers. “The product's unique round structure makes it easier to use. Traditional truck tire pads are flat and bonded to other layers of the tire pad with their corners,” Hofner added.

This award is the second time Goodyear won this honor. In 2011, Goodyear won the "Tire Technology Innovation of the Year" award for its "active grip" technology for UltraGrip Ice + winter tires. This product tire adopts the unique design of the double tread formulation and the mixing slot to deal with the extreme environmental challenges in some areas, including the winter snow and ice in the Nordic region.
