Goodyear and Luxembourg government team up to build 41 million R&D centers

On November 17, 2016, the tire manufacturer Goodyear announced that it has invested 41 million euros with the Luxembourg Institute of Technology to create “very important” R&D projects focusing on R&D for sustainable transportation and next-generation materials.

The project funding comes from Goodyear and the Luxembourg government for research and development of state subsidies. The cooperation period is five years and it is expected to inject new vitality into the development of the automotive industry R&D.

According to the statement issued, the project will employ 38 full-time R&D technicians and “a certain number” of doctoral and postdoctoral personnel. R&D staff will work at the Luxembourg Institute of Technology and the Goodyear Innovation Center.

This innovative cooperation will solve the "confronted social challenges and promote the deep innovation of the automotive industry in the future," Goodyear said.

And focus on how tire manufacturing and the environment coexist in harmony - including materials, performance, manufacturing processes and other aspects.

According to Goodyear, the research project also provides "frontier data science" to improve the speed of tire logistics and shorten product development time.

In addition, "innovative lightweight materials" will be developed to reduce tire rolling resistance.
