The ISLG can reduce NOx emissions from the current 0.2 to 0.02, which is in line with the CARB-accredited near-zero NOx emissions in California, which is eight years ahead of the expected completion target in 2023. Its power is between 250 and 320 horsepower, and its torque range is 660 to 1000 foot-pounds (about 894 to 1355 Nm).

“In Southern California, clean, zero-emissions or near-zero-emissions automotive technology is the key to environmental protection,” said Barry Wallerstein, executive officer of the South Coast Air Quality Management District. "The new engine provided by Cummins Westport is an important tool for achieving this goal."

In addition to a 90% reduction in nitrogen oxide emissions, ISLG will use closed crankcase ventilation, which reduces engine methane emissions by 70%. The engine also uses a passive after-treatment three-way catalyst and does not require post-treatment such as diesel particulate filters or selective catalytic reduction.

The new engine will be expected to begin production in April 2016 and will replace all existing ISLG vehicles. In addition, ISB6.7G and ISX12G engine products are also under development.
