Ford recently said that China will eventually become its largest export market. While Ford opened a new plant in the southern city of Nanchang, China, its CEO Alan Mulally expressed hope that China will eventually become Ford’s main exporter. "I think this is only a matter of time." When interviewed by Bloomberg Television and asked about issues related to Ford's export products to China, Mulally said, "With the passage of time, all our facilities will be in place. We can support our market anywhere in the world."
Ford plans to invest 4.9 billion U.S. dollars in China and has already caught up with car giants like GM and Volkswagen. Ford’s efforts have been effective, with sales of the company’s products increasing by 48% this year.
"Ford's expansion in China is greatly beyond our expectation." John L., the marketing director of Shanghai LMC Motor Co., once told reporters that "Ford's new car is buoyed by Chinese consumers and the company's performance in China this year is also very good."
Although Ford Motor Company is making continuous progress, Ford will have a long way to go if it is to occupy a place in China, the world's largest auto market. Ford currently sells about $1 billion less than GM and Volkswagen in China.
The Ford Focus and EcoSport SUV sports cars produced in China are expected to account for 6% of the Chinese market by 2015.
