Accelerate the promotion of new energy vehicles Eaton formed an international alliance

Eaton Corporation recently announced that NESTIA, the "International Alliance for New Energy Sustainable Transport Systems" (NESTIA), which aims to accelerate the application of new energy vehicles in Chinese cities. The alliance members include Eaton Corporation, AECOM Corporation, IBM Corporation, Foton Motors, Lithium-ion battery manufacturer CITIC Guoan Mengguli Corporation, and electric motor supplier Dayang Electric Co., Ltd. The alliance was officially unveiled on August 28, 2010 by Futian at the 3rd China Green Energy Automobile Development Summit Forum.

NESTIA's first project will design and use electric buses equipped with advanced components provided by Eaton, Ocean Motor and Nugget.

"The Alliance fully integrates urban planning and smart grid infrastructure experts, as well as Eaton hybrid and electric vehicle technologies, to provide an overall energy-saving and environmental protection solution for cities that want to accelerate the adoption of clean energy vehicles, and has the opportunity to rapidly advance the application of new technologies in China. Zhou Tao, President of Eaton China, said.

The “International Alliance for New Energy Sustainable Transport Systems” is part of a broader global alliance formed by Eaton, AECOM, and IBM to promote the practical application of clean energy vehicles in major global markets, including plug-ins for private and public transportation use. And pure electric vehicles, focusing on the promotion of clean energy vehicles in the areas of taxis, buses, garbage trucks, and sanitation vehicles, and equipped with charging facilities accordingly.

The new coalition's multi-disciplinary expertise involves the acceleration of all major aspects of the practical application of electric vehicles, including:

The overall planning for the network construction of battery exchange and charging stations for public and private electric vehicles will take the opportunity of establishing an electric vehicle network to increase the flexibility of transportation, land use, and economic growth;

Utilize global and local supply chains to design and develop plug-in and pure electric vehicles and electric vehicle service equipment;

Build a network of electric vehicle charging stations for public transportation and provide related procurement and construction management services;

Understand the capabilities of existing power grid facilities in meeting new load requirements, providing smart companies with smart measurement equipment and systems, and assisting power companies in establishing a variety of business application solutions to improve and integrate various systems for electric vehicles.

“Providing such solutions fully demonstrates that AECOM can use its capabilities in integrated sustainable transportation, planning and design to create unique values for cities that want to support the development of electric vehicles,” said Qiao Quansheng, president of AECOM China. “Our continued success also reflects AECOM's commitment to being a global leader in its business and in the best interests of its customers around the world.”

"IBM understands the needs and challenges faced by agencies, businesses and communities initially adopting electric vehicles in the transportation system," said Brad Gammons, vice president of IBM Energy and Utilities, "through this partnership, we will provide system integration and implementation. Tools to create a strong commercial and technical foundation for the practical application of electric vehicles."
